Changing Your Screen Resolution

Do you know what your Screen Resolution is set at? Tired of looking at tiny little writing on your screen when you view websites…? Customizing things to be the way you want can really help you use your computer better!

You can reset this on a PC by going to your [Desktop], right-click and choose [Screen Resolution]. Then, there should be a dropdown menu called [Resolution] that you can use to make your screen use more or less pixels. When you reset it and click okay, your screen will flash blank as it readjusts – don’t panic. Then, it will be reset to the different size and give you the option to keep it that way. If you don’t like it, you can always put it back the way it was too by repeating these steps!

Try it and see if changing the settings on your Screen Resolution makes it better to view things on your computer!

Reformat your SmartPhone or Tablet – Start Clean

Don’t you hate it when your SmartPhone gets tons of glitches? Did you know that you can reformat most phones, putting them back to the original settings? It does wipe all your programs and data, so be prepared. But, it gives you the opportunity to start clean.

I just did one on my old Android phone (for my Mother-in-Law) and you had to hit the [Down Volume] [Home/Menu Button] and then hit the [Power Button]. This then brought me to a root directory that allowed me to wipe it! Then, I added all of her own Apps, Contacts, and Accounts starting with a clean slate!

I also just wiped my daughter’s tablet clean too! A little harder to get to the root directory – the buttons you had to press were a lot harder to get – but it worked great too. There is an option in the [Settings] [Privacy] area on the phone itself that allowed this too, but doing it from the root directory is cleaner! I think in this case, I’m going to wipe her tablet clean every six months or so because as a kid she gums it up with all sorts of garbage.

Hope this helps you get your phone or tablet clean!

Never Have to Remember a Password Again

RoboForm is an awesome “Password Handler”.

If you are using the same passwords for more than one account, you are making a HUGE mistake – you are leaving yourself open to being hacked. This software will allow you to use “unique passwords” for ever account you sign up for. So, your bank account will be one password, your FaceBook another, … You would never use the same password twice with this software! It then allows you to “password protect your passwords” so ALL YOU NEED TO REMEMBER IS ONE PASSWORD. This makes you more secure and keeps you from having to remember a million passwords.

It also allows you to create Identities where you can fill forms out on websites with one click, can save your bookmarks, saves passwords for internal software, and you can even add your contact list to it. And, everything you add to it is saved on your computer as a unique files, so you can back it up easily for security purposes.

Awesome software! The trial version gives you limited usage, but you can try it out to see if you like it. If you do, the pro version is relatively inexpensive and well worth it!

Great Calendar App on the Android Network

Check out “Jorte” on your Android phone if you are looking for a cool calendar App. It integrates with Google Calendars really well. And, it has lots of display options so you can pick how you view it. I find that everyone has a different way they like their calendar to look, and Jorte allows this. You can choose to see it daily, weekly, monthly, … and it has different displays for each one of these. It also allows you to to add it onto a Home screen as a widget that you can size yourself (so you can make it 2×2 for a small view or 5×5 which covers a whole screen). Very adaptable! Check it out…

Time to Consider Getting a Mobile Website

We’ve been designing a lot of mobile websites for people lately. People searching on SmartPhones has ballooned and is becoming the top way that they find websites.

A mobile site needs to be much more simplistic telling everyone who you are and what you do in a lot less information. So, for example, your mobile homepage should only have a sentence or two about who you are – like your “Mission Statement” – instead of five paragraphs like you’d have on your normal site. And, all the images for the Mobile site need to be proportionately designed to fit the screen.

If you are viewing this posting on a SmartPhone, check out these sites:

Menu Shortcut on an Android Phone

Did you know that on lots of the Android phones that if you hold down the “Home” button it gives you a list of the most recent Apps/Programs you opened? It doesn’t work on all phones, but a good portion of them work that way. (If you are an iPhone user, give it a try and tell us if it works that way too…)

It’s a great way to go back to things like Websites in a Browser you were viewing yesterday or jump to your FaceBook App again or get into Words with Friends quicker. Often, it’ll open it up right where you left it… It’s a neat little navigation tool.

Just a friendly tip… Give it a try and tell us if it worked for you!
